Directions for Writing a Haiku 1) Imagine you are a Japanese poet 2) Brainstorm: Write what you see, what you hear, what you smell, and what you feel about the location that you choose. Some ideas: - park - mountains -the beach - lake, river -a forest 3) Writing: Your haiku must contain three lines consisting of 17 syllables: five in the first line, seven in the second, and five in the third. 4) Your haiku must be written in the present tense and should use words to paint an image that helps the reader imagine the scene and understand it’s mood. 5) Illustrate your haiku when you are finished ( You may use white paper)

Create a HAIKU (5-7-5 syllables) about nature on a separate sheet of paper
All of the steps below must be followed
Directions for Writing a Haiku
1) Imagine you are a Japanese poet
2) Brainstorm: Write what you see, what you hear, what you smell, and what you feel about the location that you choose. Some ideas:
- park - mountains
-the beach - lake, river
-a forest
3) Writing: Your haiku must contain three lines consisting of 17 syllables: five in the first line, seven in the second, and five in the third.
4) Your haiku must be written in the present tense and should use words to paint an image that helps the reader imagine the scene and understand it’s mood.
5) Illustrate your haiku when you are finished ( You may use white paper)
Example:
Cherry blossoms bloom
Temple hidden among trees
Soft voices, birds chirp
Cherry blossoms sway
Cool breeze blowing through branches
Sweet sensation flows.
